Izumi and his doubles partner Fukawa Kimiyoshi often play at the street tennis courts where they met Momoshiro Takeshi and Echizen Ryoma. Although they defeated the inexperienced pair at a practice match, the Seigaku players decided to avenge their loss with the Ah-Un tactic and emerged victorious at the Tokyo District Preliminaries. Izumi and Fukawa remained on friendly terms with Momoshiro. Because of his calmness under pressure and greater analytical skills, Izumi is the leader in his partnership with Fukawa. |
